What changed is around the engine. Husqvarna cites a patented hybrid crankcase - plastic and metal - designed for robustness and longevity, and claims 20 percent faster cutting than the 450 Rancher, which it attributes to improved cutting capacity rather than more horsepower. It ships with a 20-inch bar, the same 13-to-20-inch recommended range, and Husqvarna's SP33G X-Cut chain.

One useful thing Husqvarna states directly: the 450S shares its powerhead design with the 445S but delivers more horsepower (3.2 versus 3.0), and it belongs to what Husqvarna calls its best-selling Rancher line. If you want the proven saw without paying for AutoTune, this is it.

The 450X Rancher: AutoTune Comes to the 400 Series
