TL;DR: For wet work boots and gloves after a day of snow, the DryGuy DX is our pick: forced air with a heat/no-heat switch, four ports for two pairs (or boots and gloves) and a 3-hour shutoff, sold by Amazon. If you'd rather leave a dryer on all winter in silence, the PEET Original is the classic, made in the USA with a 25-year warranty. Two people in the house? The PEET Advantage Plus dries two pairs. The FORLIM is the budget forced-air option.

Leather work boots that go on wet in the morning stay cold all day, and boots that never fully dry start to smell and break down. A boot dryer pushes warm air down into the toe, where a radiator or a heat vent never reaches. Two kinds are worth knowing: forced air dryers with a fan, which work in one to three hours, and convection dryers like the PEET Original, which are silent and work overnight.

How we chose these: We compared what each maker lists for drying method, wattage, drying time, capacity, timer and warranty, and checked every pick on Amazon on October 12, 2026. We did not test these dryers ourselves.

Best Boot Dryer: DryGuy DX

A central blower pushes air through four ports, so you can dry two pairs of boots, or one pair of boots and a pair of gloves, in one to three hours, per the listing. A heat/no-heat switch lets you dry leather gently or use plain air for heat-sensitive gear, and a 3-hour timer shuts it off on its own. DryGuy sells extensions for taller boots and waders. It measures 12 by 7.5 by 15 inches with a 6-foot cord, so it fits by the back door or in the garage. Sold by Amazon.

Silent Pick: PEET Original

PEET has made boot dryers since 1955, and this is the one that started it. There's no fan: gentle heat rises through the tubes and dries boots overnight, using 36 watts, per the listing. It's meant to stay plugged in all winter. PEET says it's safe on leather, rubber, neoprene and synthetics, and it carries a 25-year warranty if you register within 10 days. Boots taller than the tubes need PEET's 12-inch extensions, sold separately. It was sold by M Emporium, not Amazon, when we checked.

Two Pairs at Once: PEET Advantage Plus

The Advantage Plus dries two pairs at once with a fan. With heat on (220W) PEET lists a one-to-four-hour turnaround, and fan-only mode (36W) is for sensitive materials. It's ETL tested with a 5-year warranty after registration and takes the same glove and helmet attachments as the Original. Sold by M Emporium.

Budget Pick: FORLIM Forced Air

FORLIM's dryer blows 200W warm air through two telescoping, bendable ports that reach into the toe box, with a 0-to-120-minute dial timer. The listing gives 104 to 140F heat and about one to two hours per pair, for boots with shafts up to about 21 cm (8 inches). It's sold by FORLIM's own store.

How to Dry Boots Without Ruining Them

  • Pull the liners and insoles and dry them separately. They hold most of the water.
  • Use low or no heat on leather. Gentle, steady drying is what these dryers are for. A boot propped against a wood stove or heater dries fast and cracks.
  • Tall boots need extensions. If the tube doesn't reach the toe, the toe stays wet.
  • Dry them every night in wet weather. A boot that starts the day dry stays warmer.

Common Questions

Do boot dryers work on gloves?

The DryGuy DX takes gloves on its ports, and PEET sells glove attachments for both PEET models. FORLIM lists gloves too.

Is it safe to leave a boot dryer on overnight?

The PEET Original is designed to stay on all the time, per PEET. The forced-air models have timers, so set them and let them shut off.

Will a boot dryer kill boot odor?

Drying boots fully is what stops the smell from building, since bacteria need moisture. PEET says its dryers remove the moisture that causes odor.
