TL;DR: The best heated vest for most people doing outdoor chores is the ORORO 4-Zone Heated Vest: heated collar, back and both hand pockets, three heat settings and up to 10 hours on low, per ORORO. The Venustas Men's Heated Vest spreads heat over six zones with the same 3/6/10-hour rating. If you want a DEWALT vest that comes with a 20V battery, the DEWALT DCHV095 kit is the one, but DEWALT publishes far less about it.

A heated vest is the most useful piece of heated gear for outdoor work. Shoveling, splitting firewood, running a chainsaw or a walk-behind snow blower all keep your arms moving, so you don't need heat there. You need it in your core when you stop, and a vest puts it there without bulk at the shoulders. It also fits under a work coat.

How we chose these: We compared the makers' published specs (heat zones, settings, run time, battery, washing and warranty) and checked every pick on Amazon on October 8, 2026. We did not hands-on test these vests. Where a maker doesn't publish a number, we say so.

The Heated Vests Compared

All three have three heat settings. Run times are the makers' own full-charge figures. Deep cold and the high setting both cut them.

Best Heated Vest: ORORO 4-Zone Heated Vest

This is the vest most people should buy. It heats four zones: the collar, mid-back and both hand pockets. One button switches between three settings. The 7.38V 4,800 mAh pack is rated for up to 10 hours on low and has a USB port to charge a phone. The shell is water- and wind-resistant, so it works as the outer layer on a dry day or under a coat on a wet one.

The heated hand pockets matter most on outdoor jobs. Between snow-blower passes or log rounds, your hands go straight into heat without taking your gloves off.

Watch for: the battery is ORORO's own 7.4V pack, so a spare is a separate ORORO purchase. It was sold by ORORO's store and shipped by Amazon when we checked.

Most Heat Zones: Venustas Men's Heated Vest

Venustas's quilted vest lists six heating zones, rated at 3 hours on high, 6 on medium and 10 on low. It has a water-resistant shell and is machine washable, per the Amazon listing. Pick it over the ORORO if you want heat spread over more of your back and front. It was sold by Venustas's store and shipped by Amazon when we checked.

DEWALT With a Battery: DEWALT DCHV095 Heated Puffer Vest Kit

This kit comes with a DEWALT 20V battery, charger and adapter. DEWALT lists three heat settings and a quilted polyester shell that repels water and resists wind, with waterproof zippered pockets. It does not publish heat-zone locations or run time, and it lists a 90-day limited warranty. It was sold by Amazon.com when we checked, with limited stock.

It makes sense if you want your heated vest on the same battery as DEWALT tools you plan to buy. Otherwise the ORORO is the better-documented vest.

Maker Battery or Tool Battery?

ORORO and Venustas run on their own small 7.4V packs. ORORO's is rated at 35.4 Wh and charges over USB-C. They're light, but they don't run anything else you own. DEWALT's heated gear runs on its 20V MAX tool packs, so one set of batteries covers your drill, your impact driver and your vest. The two systems don't mix: a DEWALT pack won't run an ORORO vest.

What About Milwaukee?

Milwaukee's M12 heated vests are popular on job sites and run on M12 tool packs. When we checked Amazon, they were listed by third-party resellers rather than sold by Amazon or Milwaukee, so we don't feature them. If you're on M12, buy from a Milwaukee dealer.

How to Wear a Heated Vest

The heating panels only work close to your body. Wear the vest over a base layer or a light shirt, not over a thick sweatshirt, with your work coat or shell on top. Size for a close fit and check each listing's size chart. DEWALT also sells a women's heated puffer vest (DCHV094), and several of these brands offer women's sizing.

Common Questions

Is a heated vest better than a heated jacket?

For active outdoor work, usually yes. A vest keeps your core warm while your arms work and fits under a coat. If you stand or ride more than you move, see our best heated jacket guide.

Can you wear a heated vest in the rain?

In drizzle and light snow, yes. These vests are water-resistant, not waterproof. In real rain, wear a waterproof shell over it.

Can you wash a heated vest?

The ORORO and Venustas vests are machine washable with the battery removed. ORORO says to wash cold in a mesh bag and never machine dry. DEWALT doesn't list washing instructions on its product page, so follow the tag.

How long does a heated vest battery last?

By the makers' figures, about 3 hours on high and up to 10 hours on low for the ORORO and Venustas packs. Expect less in deep cold.

Keep the Rest of You Warm

A heated vest works best with warm hands and feet. See our winter work gloves and steel-toe boots guides. If the cold-weather job is snow, our snow blower guide covers the machines.
